Colonel Robert P. Birmingham (Ret)

Bob Birmingham retired from active duty after 25 years of service on August 1, 2003 . Over the course of his career, he served in numerous command, staff and critical acquisition positions. He completed his Army career as the program manager for the RAH-66 Comanche Helicopter Program. Prior to assuming duties in the Comanche PMO, COL (Ret) Birmingham was the project manager for all U.S. Army Aviation Systems and served as the T800 Engine product manager.

Upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1978, Mr. Birmingham was commissioned a 2LT in the Transportation Corps and later branch transferred to the newly formed Aviation Branch in 1983. He commanded Transportation and Aviation units in the United States , Germany and Korea . His acquisition assignments were focused on aviation and aviation simulation programs since 1986 and included assignments to the U.S. Army Aviation Systems Command, the PEO Aviation and the Simulation Training and Instrumentation Command.

In addition to a BS in engineering from West Point , Mr. Birmingham has master's degrees in business and national security policy. He is a War College graduate and was a national security fellow at the JFK School of Government, Harvard University . He is also a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College and is a Level III DoD certified program manager.

Mr. Birmingham is a consultant to the Army Science Board, and is employed by he is employed by L-3 Communications as their Senior Vice President for Army Programs. Mr. Birmingham has been the Tennessee Valley Chapter President and National Executive Board member since 1999.
